First Being Bad Blog- Smoking

The second lesson of my new subject being bad was about smoking; what attracts people to it and how it can be atrractive and glamouress inspite of all the health implications that are associated with it. This subject is an extremely controversial one, particularly at the moment with all the potential smoking bans that are being contemplated.
There are two extreme views when it comes to smoking. These are that smoking is bad for the smoker, the environment and everyone else that inhales the smoke. This view thinks that smoking should be completely banned. The next view is that smoking is a good habit and people should be able to smoke whenever and wherever they wish.
Personally I am neither pro nor anti-smoking. It is my opinion that everyone should make their own descision. I would not smoke myself but that is not because I am against it, the reason is more down to the rest of my family smoking. I have seen how much money they spend on cigarettes, I like buying clothes too much to spend it on that. There's also the smoke that no one really wants to have but they have to because they're craving it. When it's freezing cold and windy or absolutley chucking it down, I'm inside in the warm waving at my mum and dad outside.
This lecture made me more aware of the different viewpoints that people have concerning his subject, however it did not change my opinions in anyway. That's a good thing in my opinion.
The two main sites that I found useful when researching peoples various opinions on smoking were;
A site that promotes tolerance for smokers and
a organisation that promotes the ban on smoking.

You have a very open minded view, as a non- smoker. I am a smoker myself and I get quite irritated when it seems that other's anti-smoking views seem to infringe on my personal freedom. I am not a selfish smoker, I wouldn't smoke inside a non-smoker's house, for example. I think that your tolerance on the subject show great maturity of mind.
